Springtime Ad Options for Small Businesses

Hi friends! I just wanted to pop by with a quick announcement for those of you who are small business owners or makers looking for affordable ad options for the coming Spring. Starting this February, we will be rededicating the right-hand banner advertising portion of Creature Comforts to the promotion of indie businesses. As a small business owner myself, I know just how important it is to maximize a limited advertising budget, so these ads have been priced with small advertising budgets in mind. If you think you might be interested in having your business seen here on Creature Comforts please get in touch with us right away for more details. We look forward to working with you soon! xo

Getting Crafty with the Fiesta Movement

Today I’m delighted to be partnering with Ford to help spread the word about their exciting Fiesta Movement. Over the past several months, Ford has challenged a team of savvy agents to accomplish and share themed missions inspired by the 2014 Ford Fiesta. There have been all sorts of fun, silly, and creative missions accomplished so far. This month’s themed missions are all about “Style” (something the Fiesta has in spades of course), and now I’m using one of the completed missions from this month, to dream up a special DIY project that I’ll be sharing with you guys here really soon. I can’t tell you what that project is going to be yet…but you just might be able to get a pretty good idea from watching this mission video that inspired it:

Any guesses? Hint: it won’t involve miniatures…but it just might involve paint, and it will relate to the “style” theme. Curious? Be sure to check back later this month for my completed challenge and DIY project inspired by the Ford Fiesta Movement! xo Ez

Welcome to the New Creature Comforts

creaturecomfortswelcomeFriends, I’ve been keeping a little secret from you! For many months I’ve been working with several talented designers to fully overhaul Creature Comforts, with the goal of offering you better functionality, enhanced community features, and an experience that is more inspiring for you overall. And now, after such a long wait and a lot of hard work I am beyond thrilled to finally be able to share the brand new home of Creature Comforts with you! I’ll be outlining a few of the key features of the new site below, so feel free to read through them or just make yourself right at home and venture off to discover new things to love about Creature Comforts. I’m so glad you’re here!

Before I dive in, I want to quickly share the two teams behind the new Creature Comforts design with you. Please say hello to: Jo Klima of The Darling Tree, and Donaville and Steven of Hello Hello Hi. Jo hand-lettered our new logo (we’re in love) and designed the site’s beautiful new look from the ground up. Donaville and Steven headed up the coding and developing side of things (such a tough job), and are responsible for making all the pretty details function properly for us. I couldn’t have done it without them!

Now onto new features! Woohoo! To keep things simple, I’ll start with items found toward to top of the site and work my way down.

USER ACCOUNTS have been given an overhaul, and the old system had to be left behind in the process. This means that if you had an account on the old site, or would like one now, you will need to set up a new account (you can access the login features in the pink bar near the top of the site). The great news is that this step has been made easier than ever…just use one of your social media accounts to connect. There are two great benefits to creating an account:

  1. The ability to participate more easily in comments/conversations on posts.
  2. The exciting new ability for logged-in users to add posts to a personal list of favorites! No more need to search or scroll for hours to find that post that you really wanted to read again. Once logged in, just click the “ADD TO FAVORITES” link at the bottom of any post and it will be instantly added to your personal favorites page. Any time that you are logged in, you can access these favorites in the right-hand column, directly beneath the “Visit the DIY Gallery” button. Click on individual post titles that you’ve saved to access them, or select “All your favorite posts” to view all of your saved posts in a linked gallery view…like so:

ccfavoritepostsIsn’t that exciting!

FEED SUBSCRIPTIONS were another thing that needed a complete makeover. Since the old feed is no longer active if you previously subscribed you will now need to subscribe to the new site in order to continue receiving updates. I truly apologize for the hassle. You can find the Creature Comforts’ Feed here. I recommend using Feedly (since Google Reader is shutting down). For easy access you can also find feed subscription buttons near the top of the page.

ccnewcategoriesNext we have the new CATEGORIES section: Live | Shop | Make | Inspire. If you click on one of these main themes you will be presented with sub-categories featuring posts that fall under the main category. Open one or all four main categories at once…whatever works best for you! Choose something that catches your eye beneath a section and click to view all posts within that category.

ccnewdiygalleryOur DIY GALLERY has been given a makeover too! You can now easily scroll down the page to see all the DIY categories that are available. Underneath each title bar you will see three sample posts to pique your curiosity. To view more posts within any category, simply click “view all” (found in the category title bar), and you will see all the projects posted within that category. If you want to close a DIY category, simply click “view less” and you will be shown only the three main images for that category again. I hope you’ll have a lot of fun exploring this new feature!

THREADED COMMENTING at last! I am so excited for this feature because I believe that the ability to reply directly to one another in a comment section truly enhances the community aspect of a site. Now we get to use it here on Creature Comforts! If you’d like to reply to a comment left by another Creature Comforts’ member, simply click “reply” within their comment field. This will drop your comment down directly beneath theirs and enable actual conversations within the comments section!

As with any new site, there are bound to be little glitches here and there. We’ve done our best to iron most of them out, but if you do catch anything at all, please feel free to let me know. I’d also love to hear any constructive feedback that you might have about the new design. Is there anything you would like to see added that we don’t currently have? Anything that would make your visit better? I truly value your opinion!

And finally before I dash, I just want to thank each one of you for being a part of what makes Creature Comforts so wonderful! This space wouldn’t be even half of what it is without you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. xo Ez

The Best of Creature Comforts 2012

Hi friends! I had several fun posts that I was hoping to share with you this week, but we’ve had a unforeseen family crisis come up, so I’ll be taking off for the holiday a bit sooner than planned. Even still, I didn’t want to leave you emptyhanded, so I’ve put together a quick roundup of your and my favorite Creature Comforts posts of 2012. I hope you’ll enjoy browsing through them over the coming week…maybe you’ll even discover a few new favorites!

Thank you for being a part of Creature Comforts in 2012. I feel so fortunate to get to share this little corner of the web with all of you. I’ll be back again for a whole new year of awesome posts and new goodies in January after the holidays. See you then!

Wishing you a holiday filled with all things merry and bright…and a New Year that sparkles with beautiful possibilities! xo Ez
