My Two Easy Room Makeovers with Valspar Paint (Before)

My house is much like a person; in that it is filled with plenty of quirks and faults, but I am determined to love it regardless. That doesn’t mean that I can’t find ways to improve it however…and the simplest and most dramatic way that I’ve found to do that is with the magic of paint. After moving in last Spring, I started dreaming of two easy paint-related mini makeovers that I wanted to try. So when Valspar Paint got in touch and asked if I would like to use their paints on any upcoming home paint projects, I jumped at the opportunity.

The two projects I decided to take on were:kitchen-cupboard-inspiration

Project 1: Adding a pop of color to the inside of my kitchen cabinets…inspired by this lovely image from A Beautiful Mess (they used Valspar paint too).

Project 2: Creating a gallery-style art wall on the main wall in our living room area. Inspiration image from Les Zigouis.

Check out my two before shots at the top of the post. Ugh! Can we agree that a touch of paint could do wonders?!

I’ll admit that in the past I’ve always felt a bit of nervousness related to selecting paint colors (there are just so many amazing hues to choose from…and what if you don’t get it right the first time around), so I was delighted to learn about the Valspar Color Guarantee: if you purchase a color that you don’t end up liking in your space, they will replace it with any new color for free. I didn’t need to take them up on the offer (I loved the colors I ended up with)…but it sure did take a lot of pressure off to know that I could do a color-switcheroo if needed.

For the kitchen cupboard interiors I knew that I wanted to go with a pale minty green and started gathering inspiration from Pinterest to inspire my paint selection. When all was said and done, I ended up with three great Valspar colors to sample: Alpine Peak, Apothecary Jar, and Cool Mint. After painting some sample swatches I chose the one that most closely matched my favorite latte bowls: Alpine Peak!

The paint in this photo is still wet, so the color looks lighter than the finished effect (which I love). It’s so fun to walk into my bright white kitchen and then have a flash of my favorite color pop out every time I open a cupboard door!

Next up…our living room wall. I didn’t even need to test colors this time around, since the second I clapped eyes on the color Tomcat, I was smitten. I chose a nice flat finish (to minimize our excessively textured walls) and got to painting lickety-split. The rich charcoal-black color immediately transformed our space, and I adore it!

I can’t wait to share the finished results with you all? Be sure to check back next week for the big reveal! xo Ez

Fun projects — I enjoy picking paint colors. So many paint companies sell tiny jars of paint so you can sample colors – talk about no pressure. Also, I have my switch plates painted the same color as my walls too — so they don’t stand out. Can’t wait to see your finished project! E.

Oh I LOVE the black wall! It reminds me of my chalkboard wall in my kitchen. I have so many home projects to finish. I get all inspired and and then I lose steam or get distracted….but slow and steady wins the race right!? I will keep at it :) with the hopes of having a “finished” space by spring. Thanks for the pep talk darling!!

I am sort of in the middle of brainstorming ideas to paint my kitchen cabinets and this is such a great post to get me inspired… of course my kitchen has some major issues, so the cabinets is the least of my worries…

I LOVE VALSPAR PAINTS!!!!! I recently tried a Sherwin Williams enamel that everyone bragged about, and I SO WISH I had stuck with my old Valspar standby….. I don’t know if everybody knows, but Valspar is a great brand offered at Lowe’s also, at least here in the Midwest!! They are incredible quality paints, and reasonable pricing, with out of this world selection of colors and finishes and even some designer finishes as well. The whole interior of my home is painted with their paints – love it!
