The Perfect Handmade Father’s Day Gift with Creativebug

fathersdaywithcreativebugI don’t know about you, but every year around this time I start racking my brain for a clever handmade Father’s Day gift idea to give to my dad. I don’t usually get very far before I end up falling back on old standbys like neckties or BBQ seasoning (boring). Fortunately this time around I didn’t have to scramble or succumb to the mundane, because my need for the perfect gift was met when Creativebug got in touch to see if I’d like to team up with them to design an awesome handmade father’s day gift using their Color Image Transfers on Wood Tutorial by Courtney Cerruti. Brilliant!

fathersdaywithcreativebug3If you’re not yet familiar with Creativebug, here’s the 411! As a subscriber to the Creativebug site you have access to more than 160 projects (featuring beautifully filmed video tutorials) in 22 categories (more added every week), or you can purchase specific projects that pique your interest “a la carte.” It’s like having your very own crafting classroom stocked with only the best projects, lead by the finest teachers (such as Heather Ross and Hello!Lucky—just to name two favorites)…available to you anytime day or night (so you can get your craft on in your jammies or whenever else inspiration strikes). They are the ultimate go-to source for online art and craft instruction for sure!

fathersdaywithcreativebugsampleSo…now that you know how awesome Creativebug is, you can see why I was so keen to create a project using one of their tutorials. My piece first started as a printable Game of Thrones quote (love GOT), that I designed specifically for use with this project (it’s available for free with purchase of the Color Image Transfers on Wood Tutorial or full Creativebug membership – be sure to snag the promo code below for a discounted rate). I then followed the video tutorial on Creativebug to create my finished plaque. The project was loads of fun to make, easy to do, and I am absolutely in love with how the finished piece came out! I even made a few extra wooden plaques to display in my home!

fathersdaywithcreativebug04The four image transfers (previewed above) that I created for use with the Color Image Transfers on Wood project are available after purchase of the single project (download will appear on the project page) or membership. Use promo code: CCB for $15 off any subscription package. Offer expires on 7/15/13.

fathersdaywithcreativebug2I ended up having so much fun making the original quote piece that I decided to add to my Father’s Day gift by including a transfer of a favorite photo of my dad and me (taken years ago). You can create your own personalized photo transfers with the tutorial using a copy of any color or black and white photo that you’d like (perfect for instagram snapshots)! Just think of the possibilities!fathersdaywithcreativebug6
