What I’m Wearing to Alt Summit 2012

So I’m not going to lie…I’ve been kind of freaking out about what to wear to Alt Summit for the past month. I always have a hard time convincing people that the outfit options and color palette of my closet is severely limited, but it’s true. I just really don’t shop for myself all that often, and when I do it is usually just for basics (like black tee shirts). Hence my reason for freaking out. After countless frustrating shopping attempts I finally found a few items to add to my existent (if minimally so) wardrobe, and settled on these final “looks” (aka Blackout 2012) for my trip. Yes…there is a ton of black. I’ll be trying to make up for it by adding a few pops of color with my makeup/nail polish…and maybe a scarf or two.

So anyhow…after arriving tomorrow afternoon and getting settled into my hotel, my first outfit (above) will be for the special sponsor dinners (I’ll be eating at Bambara…have you been/is it good?). After the meal I’ll be heading off to a little party that Alt is throwing for all the speakers in attendance. A great chance to meet and greet, make new friends and catch up with old ones. Exciting!

Thursday it will be sessions all day. I want to be as comfortable as possible while still looking presentable…so I’ll be wearing this:

Later that evening is the much talked and fretted about Winter Wonderland Party (aka Diner en Blanc), where we are all supposed to wear white. Until very recently I literally owned nothing white, so this was a huge challenge for me. I ended up deciding on a white blazer that I can throw on over my black dress (the one I got for NYC). I have a few other options that I’ll be bringing along just in case (such as a pretty white sequined top that Erin was sweet enough to loan me-she even mailed it to me so that I could try it on ahead of time)!

On Friday I’ll be attending sessions and then giving my presentation on How to Create Great DIY Tutorials. Again, I’m going for comfort with jeans and my new favorite cardigan (seriously…I just want to live inside it):

The last parties of Alt will take place Friday night, with mini parties being hosted in different rooms of the hotel (it takes up an entire floor of the Grand America)! The parties were loads of fun last time, and I can’t wait. I’ll be wearing one of my favorite pieces that I own…a pretty beaded top by Joie (it’s another one of the things I got for my trip to NYC last year) and silky pants that are so comfortable I’ll feel like I’m getting away with wearing pajamas:

So there you have it. Comfortable, monochromatic…and very much me. I hope it suits. I’ll have one more post for you tomorrow (it will go up while I’m flying to Salt Lake City), and then I’ll be back next week to share more with you about my Alt experience! Now I’m off to pack! See you soon. xo Ez

A few links to the actual clothing pieces in case you are interested (I’m sorry that I don’t have links for everything):

Aw you will look ADORABLE! My session is on Friday too (I'm speaking on "Up and Coming Blogs") and still haven't figured out what I'll be wearing for that (but i'm kind of a Fly By the Seat of My Pants gal, when it comes to clothing). Looking forward to meeting you Ez! xo Alix

Great looks! Where did you get your long chunky cardigan from that's featured in your Friday Daytime Look board? I've been on the lookout for a long cardigan sweater!

This is the first time I've commented but I just wanted to say I LOVE your choices. These are stylish and packable. And above all, they are real. So many fashion compilations in the blog world are beautiful but not always wearable. Super high minis and 4 inch heels in an everyday environment would draw the type of second looks I wasn't trying to garner. Your choices are really versatile, easily adaptable to a multitude of options…a bright belt,a trendy necklace or even closet staples that are brown, charcoal or blue. Love it! Keep them coming!

PS Your drawings are adorable too!

Thanks so much for your comments guys! You are the best!
I found both the dress and the cowl cardigan in a little shop here in Tulsa. The silk constellation dress is by Gemma (I looked online for it last night but couldn't find it available for sale any more) and the sweater is by Stylein – I just found the link: http://stylein.com/en/product/599/suave-cardigan . xo Ez

New follower here! I do love your blog and the inspiration it gives, thank you!.

Sometimes even if your wardrobe is minimal, if you feel good and comfortable in it, you don't need too much to make it an outfit…how you wear it and feel in it is what matters and it's what will make the statement.

    Have fun at Alt!

I am also eating at Bambara tomorrow night. It looks very good! I really look forward to meeting you. I've admired your blog for years.

And… don't worry. I'm from NYC and will be basically wearing all black, too.

Now I must say I'm very smitten by your fashion drawings here. I keep going back to look at them. I find them extremely charming.

ha ha…your tights drawing made me giggle. tights are so strange looking to me – with the dangling seeming legs and all!

    have fun.

Ya know, Salt Lake is a mixed bag when it comes to fashion. There are a lot of beautiful women here and there are some great dressers, but overall, it's not the most fashionable place. I'm sure with your creative style you'll look great and fit right in.

Bambara is great and central to everything. I'm a native and a foodie (which despite popular belief is not an oxymoron here) and would be happy to give suggestions on where to eat, play, shop, rest! Have fun– it's finally cold and snow.

Oh, I love this wardrobe plan – so refreshing to see illustrations. And they're lovely! Have fun!

the outfits look great and very Angelina Jolie – she basically wears black so she doesn't have to figure out outfits – everything goes together which I think is brilliant. A great necklace, earrings and/or scarf can do so much.
