DIY Fabric Flower Pushpins + DIY Desk Accessories

One of my favorite things about working with Waverly on some special DIY posts over the past few years (here, here, and here), has been the challenge to think outside of the box when it comes to fabric. So when they recently asked me to dream up a project or two that would make a great Mother’s Day gift, I envisioned a set of fabric-adorned office goods that are perfect for dressing up a desk at home or work…and are even better when given as a gift to your lucky mom!

Keep reading to find out how to make four easy-to-create gifts using these great Waverly fabrics:

DIY Fabric Flower Pushpins diy-flower-pushpins

  • Printable Fabric Flower Template (download will begin immediately)
  • Medium-weight fabric
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Glue (permanent) | I recommend Fabri-Tac by Beacon Adhesives
  • Standard pushpins
  • Brooch pinback (optional) | for wearable variation
  • Standard pencil set with erasers (optional)

These pushpins look great on their own…and even sweeter when presented as a gift inside a DIY Fabric Embellished Pencil Cup (below). The project only takes minutes to make…so there’s no reason not to!

Tip: If your mom is a fashion maven, switch things up by crafting a fabric flower into a wearable brooch! Simply add a pinback onto the back of your bloom (leave off the thumbtack) and you’re all set!

DIY Fabric Embellished Pencil Cup diy-pencil-cup

  • Medium-weight fabric
  • Small empty paint can | available at hardware stores
  • Scrap paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Mod Podge adhesive (matte finish)
  • Paintbrush

Imagine just how much it will brighten your mom’s workday every time she sees this lovely cup full of useful blooms that you made for her!

DIY Fabric Embellished Mini Message Board diy-mini-message-board

  • Cork Trivet or small cork board | I found a set of two cork trivets for just a few dollars at Target
  • Medium-weight fabric
  • Scissors
  • Mod Podge adhesive (matte finish)
  • Paintbrush

You can make just one or several of these mini message boards (you might even want to keep one for yourself). They can be propped up or hung on the wall with removable wall-hanging strips. Don’t forget to pin a favorite photo of you and your mom onto the board when you give it to her!

DIY Fabric Embellished Note Card Set diy-fabric-note-cards

  • Blank note cards or heavy-weight paper cut and folded into note cards
  • Envelopes (optional)
  • Medium-weight fabric
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Glue (permanent) | I recommend Fabri-Tac by Beacon Adhesives

These beautifully customized notecards just might bring back the lost art of the hand-written note. Tie them up with a length of pretty ribbon…and don’t forget the posy-topped pencil!

I hope you liked my DIY gift making ideas! Stay tuned tomorrow for a giveaway from Waverly…you could win all the fabric used in this post! xo Ez
